How to recertify Cisco's CCNA Certification? CCNA Recertification and Validity Details:
About Re-certification and Expiry of CCNA Certification:
The very obvious question of aspirants, When does CCNA certification expires and how to renew Cisco CCNA certification?
All of the Cisco certifications require timely renewal/recertification in order to remain updated with the new technologies in the market and to prove one’s capability in terms of the track knowledge both theoretically and practically. If one clears the exam of any certification like CCNA, CCNP, or CCIE, his or her previous Cisco certification gets automatically renewed and extended. Same or higher level of Cisco certification will help one prove his/her subject knowledge while proving abundance knowledge of the lower level certification.
Validity of CCNA Certification
The validity of the CCNA Certification by Cisco is for 3 years. Simply put one’s CCNA Certification is considered to be valid for 3 years from the date of passing the Cisco certified CCNA online exam. However one can extend or renew the certification and preserve it from getting expired.
Recertification of CCNA with Associate level exams
To recertify or renew one’s Cisco CCNA certification he/she must clear/complete one of the below mentioned exam before the expiration date ends:
- Clear any associate level exam except ICND1 (100-101) and ICND2 (200-101). One can go for any associate level exam in any track of CCNA i.e. R&S, Security, Data Center, Voice, Service Provider, etc. apart from the two mentioned earlier. By giving any associate level exam, certification will be renewed for next 3 years from the date of clearing the recertification exam.
Recertification of CCNA with CCNP Certification
In order to recertify/ renew or extend ones CCNA certification with help of CCNP Certification, one must clear one of the below mentioned exams before the expiration date expires:
- Clear any current 642 series Professional-level or any 300 series Expert-level exam. By clearing any professional level exams like CCNP Route, Firewall or any other, previous certifications like CCNA, CCNA Security etc. will be renewed for next 2 years.
Recertification of CCNA with CCIE level Certification
If one wants to renew, recertify or extend one’s Cisco CCNA Certification with help of CCIE or Expert level Certification then following points should be kept in mind:
- Pass any current CCIE Written Exam in any track i.e. Security , Voice, R&S, Service Provider, Data Centre, etc. before the certification date expires. By passing any CCIE Written or CCDE exam, previous held certifications like CCNA, CCNP, CCDP etc. will be renewed for next 18 months, which is the actual validity of CCIE or CCDE written exam. Any previous certifications like CCNA, CCNP and CCIE written, CCIE Lab can be renewed by passing any CCIE Lab exam as well. One cannot appear for Lab exam for same track again, but can recertify his/her certifications by appearing for same or different written exams or by passing any other CCIE lab exam.
Apart from the above mentioned options one may also consider passing any current CCDE Written Exam or any current CCDE Practical Exam, or Pass the Cisco Certified Architect (CCAr) interview and the CCAr board review to extend lower certifications. To sum up in order to renew your Cisco introduced CCNA Certification one must pass/ clear a higher lever certification (or equivalent certification exam except ICND1 n ICND2) which automatically will extend your CCNA certification to the date of expiry of higher level of Cisco certification. Say if an individual has a year left for his CCNA Security certification to expire and he/she clears CCIE Security examination then both the certifications will be valid till the date of expiry of the CCIE Security Certification i.e. higher level of certification.
Note: The time left until the expiration date of one’s lower level certification will not be added on passing higher level Cisco certification.
