While preparing for the CCNP R&S online exam one requires at least 5 Routers and 3 Switches to get in depth knowledge of the CCNP R&S course.

• Routers: Routers to be used must be of 1841 series, 2611xm series, 2800 series, 3640 series. The benefit of using the above mentioned series of Cisco routers include Intranet and internet access along with firewall security, VPN access, Inter VLAN routing, Flexible routing and low density switching, built in security feature, Cisco Configuration Management (CCM), and many more such striking features.
• Switches: Switches of 2950 series, 3550 series, and 3750 series must be used while providing training on CCNP R&S. Most of the practicals are done on 3550 series of switches but certain practicals are done only on 3750 series so aspirants must practice on this switch as well.

These switches has numerous features like fast Ethernet access, Layer 2 threat defense capabilities, energy efficient, excellent network infrastructure’s power consumption management capabilities, and many more.

Recertification and Expiration of CCNP R&S Certification

Now we come to another frequently asked and normally unanswered question about the CCNA R&S certification i.e. till when this certification is valid and how to recertify the CCNP R&S certification. Following points must be kept in mind while preparing for the CCNP R&S online examination:

• Any professional level certification i.e. CCNP (All Tracks), CCDP, and CCSP are valid for three years only from the date of passing the relative exam. All the Cisco certifications must be timely recertified in order to protect them from getting expired.
• To maintain the validity of the CCNP R&S certification one must follow any of the following procedure:

1. Pass any latest 642 series or any 300 series of Professional exam or

2. Pass CCIE (Written only) exam of any track or

3. Clear any latest CCDE level Exam (Written & Practical)

4. Clear the interview for Cisco Certified Architect (CCAr) along with CCAr board review in order to extend lower level certifications.

Apart from the above mentioned information certain facts should also be kept in mind i.e. if you take a higher level certification in order to recertify the lower level certification then the expiration date of the previously cleared certification will extend to the date of expiration of the higher level certification. For e.g. if you have cleared CCNP R&S Certification two years back and only an year is left for the CCNP R&S certification to get expired, subsequently you take any higher level certification say CCIE R&S and clear it then the previously taken certification will automatically get extended to the expiration date of the CCIE R&S certification which is valid for 2 years from the date of passing the exam/certification.

Exam process for CCNP R&S Certification

The exams for the three modules of the CCNP R&S Certification are given at exam centers that have been authorized by Pearson Vue which is the authorization authority for conducting the Cisco certified Examinations worldwide. During the online test for all three modules questions appear on screen which must be answered one by one. Question in ROUTE and SWITCH module of CCNP R&S once answered can’t be re answered or reattempted after submitting the answer of that particular question whereas in Tickets of the TSHOOT module one has an advantage of reattempting the ticket again but only if the ticket has not been completely existed i.e. done button has not been clicked. The result for each of the module is printed there and then as the aspirant gets a hardcopy copy of the result in his/her hands which contain the marks obtained by the individual along with his/her personal credentials.
