Cisco changes Syllabus for CCNP Exam

Cisco recently announced expiry of ROUTE (642-902), SWITCH (642-813) and TSHOOT (642-832) exams introducing new set of exams to test and validate individual’s ability to plan, implement and troubleshoot LANS and WAN and to work along security professionals of different domains like voice, security, wireless, etc. The new set of exams introduced are as follows:

1. 642-902 ROUTE that is Implementing Cisco IP Routing (ROUTE v1.0) has been replaced by 300-101 ROUTE that is Implementing Cisco IP Routing (route v2.0).

2. 642-813 SWITCH that is Implementing Cisco IP Switched Networks (SWITCH v1.0) replaced by 300-115 SWITCH that is Implementing Cisco IP Switched Networks (SWITCH v2.0).

3. 642-832 TSHOOT that is Troubleshooting and Maintaining Cisco IP Networks (TSHOOT v1.0) replaced by 300-135 TSHOOT that is Troubleshooting and Maintaining Cisco IP Networks (TSHOOT v2.0).

Changes in syllabus have also been made in terms of few new topics which were not in the course like frame relay, has now been added to the newer updated version of CCNP R&S. These changes have been made due to changes in job requirements of various companies which has increased over time. The last date to test CCNP R&S’ s old exams that is 642-902 ROUTE, 642-813 SWITCH, and 642-832 TSHOOT is 29th January, 2015 post which all these exams will become unavailable or invalid.

Changes in content of the CCNP R&S syllabus introduced are as follows:

  • ROUTE (300-101) that is Implementing Cisco IP Routing (ROUTE v2.0): This exam validates a candidate’s ability of successful knowledge about routing technologies and skills to conveniently use advanced IP addressing and routing in implementing scalable and extremely secure Cisco routers connected to Local Area Networks, Wireless Area Networks and IPV6. The exam also covers the configuration of highly secure routing solutions to support branch offices and mobile workers.

The topics included in ROUTE syllabus are as follows:

1. Network Principles

2. Layer 2 Technologies

3. Layer 3 Technologies

4. VPN Technologies

5. Infrastructure Security

6. Infrastructure Services

  • SWITCH (300-115) that is Implementing Cisco IP Switched Networks (SWITCH v2.0): This exam validates the knowledge and skills required to successfully handle all the switching tasks between closed, complex network architecture. Candidates who clear this exam can successfully plan, configure, and verify implementation of complex enterprise switching solutions which use Cisco Enterprise Campus Architecture.

The topics included with in the syllabus of SWITCH are as follows:

 

1. Layer 2 Technologies

2. Infrastructure Security

3. Infrastructure Services

  • TSHOOT (300-135) that is Troubleshooting and Maintaining Cisco IP Networks (TSHOOT v2.0): This exam validates candidate’s ability to plan and perform regular maintenance of/on complex enterprise routed and switched networks. He must be able to utilize technology based practices and systematic ITIL-compliant approach to perform network troubleshooting.
